Wearable Structure

For my wearable structure i decided to combine the two lessons of body structure and the pleating/draping sessions we learnt. Wanted to keep it simple and minimal so that i didn't have too much going on in one garment. So i decided to do some shoulder work on both sides incorporating the ruffle/draping effect that leads onto a pleat across the bust area. On the center front i have one of the more difficult pleats going down in a angled shape all the way to the end of the dress. I used the structure lesson to help me figure out how i wanted the darts in and how they will have effect on my dress.

Structuring On Stand

This week was about learning how make the basic bodis and then using that as a foundation for your structure/draping. i found this lesson so useful as it showed me how to use the fabric in a more formatted way to begin with. found this format very understandable. after making the basic bodis on mannequin i then put it on pattern paper and made the pattern for it.

Pleating

This week was by far my favourite as i felt that i really got to gripes with how the pleats were constructed and how the would work well as garments. Guest from Cement Pleating had some really good advice and tips on how to get started on trying the pleats for ourselves. Found that from experimenting ans sampling my own pleats that i enjoyed doing the more difficult pleats.

Draping The Lining

Removing the lining from the vintage mans jacket, i then experimented with different drapes and techniques of structures with this piece of fabric.

Draping The Jacket

After Deconstructing the men's jacket draping it seemed to be an easier way of reforming it into new shapes and experimenting with seams in unconventional places, such as the neck line being used as a sleeve.

Vintage Jacket

After purchasing a mens vintage jacket, deconstucting it was the next task in lesson. Finding that tthe jacket lining was pretty easy to unpick, with it having hand made soulder pads it was hard not to tear into them as they were so delicate.

Taking the lining off i found that the inside of the jacket has some interesting sewing lines and colours.
